YCSEC2014

Success!

On behalf of the organising committee, I am very pleased to report that the YCSEC 2014 was successfully held on 14-15 April 2014 in Cardiff University. In total more than 60 participants attended the conference from s0me 20 UK and overseas universities and research institutes . Prof Thorsten Stoesser  opened the conference and Prof Dominic Reeve from Swansea University delivered the Keynote Lecture on “Long-term Coastal Morphological Modelling”. At the conference, 28 oral and 14 poster presentations of extremely high quality were given covering a wide range of research areas in coastal sciences and engineering, reflecting the forefront of the UK coastal research. The conference clearly illustrated the active involvement and bright future of the new generation of coastal researchers. The conference committee members carefully assessed each presentations and awarded 4 prizes to the best and runner-up oral and poster presentations. The participants also had the opportunities to visit the Hydro-environmental Research Centre’s Hydraulics Lab and gained some insights into Centre’s research activities on the Severn Tidal Barrage, Tidal Turbine and Flooding. The conference was followed with the field trip to Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Bay Barrage, and a short-course on Long-term Wave Analysis.

I would like to express my gratitude to the support from the participants, the sponsors, the steering committee, the Institute of Environment and  Sustainability, the School of Engineering, Cardiff University, and the Campus Services, which made this conference a very successful event. I would also like to thank the Cardiff Bay Barrage Operation Team for their support to the field trip.
